REPORT: April 2026
Hello my lovelies and welcome to another monthly report! I can’t believe it’s Monday, I can’t believe it’s May, I can’t believe how old I sound when I say the same things over and over about time passing! Before we get into the actual report, a quick update on how I’m planning to run the Substack in the future! I am going to start posting more regularly for all my subscribers, with posts like this one and also some general fun life updates and things that hopefully y’all will be into. My paid subscribers are still going to get some really cool and exclusive content (think early sneak peeks, giveaways, bonus chapters/epilogues/stories, and my unfiltered thoughts about the wild world of publishing), so if that sounds like your kind of thing, please check it out! I hope y’all will stick around because I have A LOT coming up to report (see what I did there?)! Let’s dive in!
READING: I think you might need to brace yourselves for this one because do I have an up.date. I officially am down to just EIGHT books on my physical TBR. Eight! At one point, I think I had close to a hundred! Late last year, I decided I really needed to buckle down on the physical TBR because I am planning a move (more on that soon) and I could not stomach packing up boxes and boxes of unread books and bringing them with me. So I clocked in and have (for once) been sticking to my book buying ban. I will definitely finish those eight books this month and then I don’t know what I’m going to do with myself! I might actually get to reread some of my faves! (Don’t worry, I still have at least thirty unread books on my NetGalley shelf, I’ll be fine lol)
EATING: I honestly can’t even think of anything out of the ordinary that I ate in April. I guess I can tell you one thing I did not eat, and that is literally anything from Food and Wine at DCA this year. The crowds at the parks for the last six-ish weeks have been out of control. I don’t even think I stepped foot in DCA most days because I just wasn’t going to deal. Kind of a bummer, but I think it also speaks to a lot of my lingering feelings about Disneyland in general these days. I still love it, still do my writing days there, but the crowds have made it overall a not fun experience lately. *shrug* The one cool thing I did imbibe was on my new quest to collect cool and unique matchbooks. We stopped in at Ka’teen in Hollywood before having dinner at Musso and Frank’s (not allowed to take photos there!) and this guava margarita was delish!
PLAYING: I am continuing to live my best audiobook life! Last month I mostly listened to Dire Bound by Sable Sorensen and I am very excited I do not have to wait for book two! I’ve also been listening to a couple of Broadway cast recordings, Chess and Ragtime are the standouts for me right now. I also downloaded the cast recording for Two Strangers Carry a Cake Across New York and while it has some really fun moments, I don’t know that it’s sticking with me much. Tony noms come out I think this week, so very interested to see how that all shakes out!
OBSESSING: I have some plans in the works that I can’t talk about that are my major obsessions, but I should be able to share more soon. I’m also working on a new project that I am absolutely loving. If you follow me on IG and you pay close attention, you might have picked up on the theme of my new project. As of right now, it’s not contracted and is mainly just something fun, but we’ll see what happens with it! Here’s a little hint in case you missed it!
RECOMMENDING: Some books I have read and loved recently are Book Tour by Emily Ohanjanians; Enemies to Lovers by Alisha Rai; The Shippers by Katherine Center; and The Tempest Blade by Danielle L Jensen. I saw The Devil Wears Prada 2 over the weekend (which was technically May but whatever!) and I had so much fun. I thought the story was really well done and I loved all of the callbacks to the first film, which as an elder millennial, was a staple for me. I am also loving Real Housewives of Rhode Island, these ladies are freaking gems. I also really loved the reboot of Ladies of London. Give me more people on reality TV who don’t know how to be on reality TV! I live for the mess! Also, I have lots of thoughts on Summer House, but maybe I’ll save those for their own post.
TREATING: This is always the hardest one for me because, as you know, my philosophy is to treat yourself whenever the mood strikes, which sort of takes away from the “treating” of it all. But I will say, a couple weeks ago, I was walking a thin line on the verge of a little menty b and as I was whining to my husband about it, I told him I just needed to buy myself something. He was like what do you need to buy and I was like “trinkets!” (said in a faux tearful voice—just imagine it). The next day I happened to be having a work day at Disneyland and he sent me $100 with a note to buy myself some guilt free trinkets. So yeah, get yourself a real one!
That’s a wrap on April! I am planning another ask me anything post soon, so if you have questions, drop them in the comments!
XOXO,
Falon
