So it has been a week since one of my ultimate author goals came to fruition and I am still processing, TBH. When I was first beginning to think about taking writing seriously and trying to get traditionally published, I used to volunteer at the LATFOB and I remember being absolutely star struck by some of the authors I got to meet and interact with. And last weekend, I was one of those authors! The whole thing was so surreal and fully exceeded my expectations and I can only hope one day I get to do it all again! Here are some highlights from the weekend!
On Saturday, I headed out to the festival a little later than I had originally planned as, for the first time in my memory, it was raining on festival day. I had good timing though, arriving at USC just as the rain started to fizzle out. I was expecting it to be kind of dead given Angelenos’ aversion to anything resembling weather, but it was packed! I checked in and got my very official author badge, which was exciting for so many reasons, but most importantly was that it gave me VIP access to the panels. I went to the Smut panel with Ali Hazelwood, Meghan Quinn, and Nana Malone and laughed my ass off (though I am still reeling from Ali’s revelation that she is Team Gale!). I had to duck out a few minutes early to make it to the Ripped Bodice booth for a signing, where I met up with my friend Liana De la Rosa. I adore her so it was so nice to have our signings at the same time so we could hang out and catch up!
We grabbed lunch together in the author green room (hello I have never felt more fancy!), after which I had a signing at the Steamy Lit booth. Toward the end of the signing, the skies decided to bless us with another torrent of rain, which is you know, not great at an outdoor book signing! But we muddled through! The rain cleared up shortly after and after I stopped by to say hi to some more friends, I headed home for the day.
Sunday was an absolute whirlwind. I went to the Romantasy panel featuring Katee Robert, Angela Montoya, Rebecca Thorne, and Callie Hart and fangirled my little heart out. Then it was time for a quick lunch and my own panel! I got to talk about all of the amazing subgenres of romance with Cat Sebastian, Liana, and Jasmine Guillory (!!!!) so more fangirling ensued. I had such a blast on the panel, which was moderated by Taylor from the Ripped Bodice who is a freaking rockstar. After the panel, we signed some books and I got to meet some incredible readers, including some of my favorite beta readers! I love meeting readers in person, and this bunch was so incredible.
I headed home shortly after my panel with a full heart and a full well. It can be so easy sometimes as a writer to feel like you’re living in a vacuum and getting to experience things like this absolutely feeds my soul. There are truly no words to express how incredible it was to attend LATFOB—it is something I will remember for the rest of my life!
Mini Announcement: On June 2nd (which feels far away but will be here before you know it!) I am going to be doing a very special Something Wicked ARC giveaway to celebrate the six months before release date! More details to come, but my advice would be to follow me and subscribe on as many platforms as you can if you want one! (In particular, I will be giving away an ARC to my paid subscribers which is a small pool if you want to increase your odds!)
